Casa Stanley Wax

Casa Stanley Wax

Frank Martínez

Siboney

1959

Frank Martínez’s house of Stanley Wax in the Reparto Biltmore (now Siboney, 1959) is described by Eduardo Luis Rodríguez as “a masterpiece of adaptation to local cultural tradition and an outstanding example of modern Cuban regionalism” (Havana Guide, pp. 32-33). The house spreads out over multiple courtyards, terraces, porches and gardens. The open plan configuration allows for free movement from the interior to the exterior with wooden louvers and stained-glass panels separating the two. The rustic exposure of brick walls and the tile floors further evoke the colonial roots of the house.
