Casa Juan F. Lamas
Humberto Alonso
Atabey, Playa
1959
Alonso’s house of Juan F. Lamas in the Reparto Biltmore is perhaps the most conspicuous and extraordinary example of the structuralist approach and his particular fascination with tectonic expression. The house adopts a Miesian plan of open interlocking spaces on multiple levels, but above a massive concrete roof supported by a complex system of concrete beams and cross beams projects over the whole creating a rather exciting, if not disturbing, sense of uneasiness.
